No Prior Experience Required at Thrust Institute of Maintenance
You don’t need mechanical experience to enroll in the Aviation Maintenance Technician program at Thrust Institute of Maintenance. The program is designed to take students from zero experience to FAA A&P certification in 10 months. Many of our students enroll with no previous mechanical experience.
The Program Starts from the Beginning
The curriculum begins with an introduction to aviation maintenance technology, covering the fundamentals before moving into more complex systems.
Students learn about aircraft structures, powerplant systems, electrical systems, and avionics in a structured sequence that builds on itself.
This isn’t a program that assumes you already know how to use a torque wrench or read a wiring diagram. It teaches you everything you need to know.

Career Changers Are Common
Many students at Thrust Institute come from completely unrelated fields. Some come from retail, hospitality, office work, or the military. Some are recent high school graduates who haven’t worked in any field yet. Prior mechanical experience can help, but it isn’t required.
The program’s small class sizes (maximum 15 students) and hands-on instruction mean that students who are new to mechanical work get the individual attention they need to build skills from the ground up.

What Matters More Than Experience
Showing up consistently, paying attention, and putting in effort during hands-on labs matters more than whatever you did before you enrolled.
The FAA requires 1,900 hours of training in a Part 147 program for a reason.
That’s enough time to train someone with no background into a competent aviation maintenance technician.
